After a nervy, hard fought win against Martin Jolai??i??s stubborn Cottagers, Manchester United make the short trip to Ewood Park ai??i?? a bogey ground of sorts. Steve Keanai??i??s Rovers were lately in the middle of a minor revival but came up a cropper against fellow relegation candidates Bolton; nevertheless, the Riversiders can take inspiration from their famous triumph at Old Trafford in their bid to upset the form book and starve off relegation fears.
Ferguson and his United side, in all probability, would have lost the pole position to their neighbours when the game kicks off this Monday evening as City host Sunderland on Saturday. Ergo, motivation shouldnai??i??t be a concern at this stage of the season. Also, after a rather lacklustre display in their previous outing, United would look to give a better account of themselves and build moment towards the all important derby later in the month. Steve Kean will be really pleased about the fact that he has almost a full squad at his disposal during such a vital part of the season.Ai??Gael Givet is a major doubt for the home side as his recovery from a hamstring problem is slower than expected. The other players missing are defender Michel Salgado and midfielder Vince Grella. The ex-Real Madrid player is suffering from a rib injury while Grella is struggling with a thigh problem with no return date set for either player.
Blackburn have started the last three games with the same eleven, winning against Wolves and Sunderland while losing last week at Bolton. With all those players fit, Kean is expected to go in with the same starting line-up once again. Yakubu and Junior Hoilett have developed a good strike partnership up-front with the Nigerian leading the line while the Canadian playing off his strike partner. Both are expected to trouble Manchester United’s defence, including the keeper De Gea, with their constant areal threat.
Morten Gamst Pederson and Steven Nzonzi will be the central midfielders for the home side. Nzonzi will be deployed as the defensive midfielder while the Norwegian will be running the play by feeding balls to the wingers and the front men. Formica and Marcus Olsson will be the wingers for Rovers as the will be looking to cross the ball on every opportunity in order to bring the tall forwards into play.
The defence will be a flat back four of Lowe, Hanley, Dann and Martin Olsson. While Dann and Hanley have been impressive in recent weeks, the full-backs have also been disciplined, with both of them concentrating on defending and not making attacking runs inside the opponents’ half. However, both of them will have to be at their very best against United, especially Olsson, as he has the toughest task of keeping in-form Valencia quiet.

Sir Alex has the same squad available for selection that was at his disposal for the game against Fulham which means that Rio Ferdinand – who was forced off due to a back injury – is fit again which is a very good news for the manager. Another good news is that Nani has returned to training and might be available for the next game against QPR at Old Trafford. Other players missing for the visitors are Owen and Anderson who are still recovering from their injuries, and Vidic and Fletcher, who have both been ruled out for the season.
With no midweek games for United, Fergie can play almost the same team week in week out till the end of the season given the players’ form and fitness. However, Scholes and Giggs and expected to be rotated in central midfield with one of them starting the game while other being used from the bench. This week, the manager is likely to go with Scholes, as the Welshman played the full ninety minutes on Monday and to be fair, he wasn’t at his best in that game as well. Carrick is once again going to partner Scholes, protecting the back four and taking part in the attack from a deeper position.
The two wingers are likely to be Valencia and Young who were pretty good against Fulham. Also with Nani injured and Park not having his best of seasons to date, the manager has a limited choice. In-form Rooney will as usual be one of the first names on the team-sheet, but he might be playing with a different partner in this game as Welbeck’s form has dipped in recent matches, and hence Hernandez could be used as the target man.
Ferdinand and Evans will be the central defenders for United while captain Evra, as usual, will be the left back. However, the right-back position will be one to look out for. Rafael, who had a brilliant game against Fulham, is the leading contender but the manager could also go for Smalling or ex-Rovers man Phil Jones if he wants to have more height in his defence.

Tony V has been in sensational form for Manchester United since December and has had two very good games against Wolves and Fulham since coming back from the hamstring injury that kept him out for a month. His link-up play with the full-back has been of the top drawer as well, as United tend to build up most of their attacks from the right hand side, with Valencia using his strength and guile to brilliant effect.
He is once again going to be a key man for Manchester United and if the home side want anything from this game the Olsson brothers must be on top of their game to stop the wily Ecuadorian.
