THT Transfer Watch – June 26, 2011

Juventus Could Bid for Park Ji-Sung

Latest reports are suggesting that Juventus could make a move for Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung.

THT Verdict: A bid is likely. A lot has been spoken about Park’s future at Old Trafford following the arrival of Ashley Young from Aston Villa. While he does provide as a good alternative to the England international, the player does believe that he will soon run out of time and would be past his peak. If the Old Lady has been keeping tabs on the player then atleast a bid can be expected.

United Eye Cavani?

Sources from Italy are claiming that Manchester United are vying for the signature of star striker Edinson Cavani from Napoli.

THT Verdict: Cavani has enjoyed a fantastic debut season at Napoli, finding the back of the net 33 times for the club. Few would then doubt as to why he has beeen coveted by Real Madrid as well as Manchester United. It is going to a huge amount to price the player away from Naples nevertheless and between Madrid and United, it is Madrid who are most likely to make a big money offer for the player.

Bayern in for Nani

Bavarian giants Bayern Munich are said to be lodging a bid for United attacker Luis Nani, according to British media house DailyMail.

THT Verdict: Unlikely. Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson are on the upward curve after winning the Premier League title last season and Nani did play an instrumental role in shaping up the Red Devils’ season. The signing of Ashley Young was a move to give the squad more depth in terms of quality and not just quantity and it is highly unlikely that United will let go of Nani.

Newcastle Enter Race for Gibson

It is reported that the Magpies have joined the chase to sign Darron Gibson who was earlier expected to head towards Sunderland.

THT Verdict: Newcastle United are looking to revamp heavily and considering Gibson has a very bleak future at United, he would fit well at a club like Newcastle. It is going to be a two-way tussle for the player though and it will be interesting to see where the Republic of Ireland international will go. After all, 5 million pounds is a figure that can be matched by either sides.

Villa Looking to Bring Back Milner

News from England is that Aston Villa are bidding in an attempt to bring former player James Milner back to the club. A sum in the region of 14 million is said to be put on the table.

THT Verdict: Likely. Having already lost Ashley Young to champions Manchester United and now in the danger of losing Stewart Downing, Aston Villa really need to hunt down for reinforcements in order to bolster their attack again. If City are successful in landing Sanchez then this reduces Milner’s chances of featuring in the starting XI. It is understood then, that Milner will have to ply his trade elsewhere and no better place than his former club isn’t it?

City Look To Gain Lead on Sanchez

Manchester City are reportedly lining up a bid of 38 million pounds for Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez that would put them in pole position to sign the player.

THT Verdict: City have the wherewithal to capitalize in this situation. With the backing of the Shiekh Mansoor, it is quite possible that City will go to the maximum extent possible to sign the player. If Barcelona do have a transfer of 40 million pounds as reported by the media, then they would ideally go after Cesc Fabregas; a player they have been looking to sign since last season. This leaves only Chelsea as the serious contenders for Sanchez’ signature.

Rafael Toloi in Talks With Milan

The brazilian under-20 star is in talks with Milan for a possible move to San Siro.

THT VERDICT: Possible. With Milan in the transfer market to remodel their squad as well as to lower the average age, Toloi would be an excellent buy. With a transfer fee of 8-9 million, he comes in quite handy as well. He can play either as center back of full back and is also an athletic player with sound technique. An excellent buy if it happens.

Emanuelson to Leave Milan?

Reports arising out of Milan suggest that Urby could be on his way out to Napoli after they failed to capture Criscito from Genoa.

THT VERDICT: Unlikely. Even though Taiwo has arrived this summer, which means there could be certain limitations to Emanuelson’s time on the pitch, the former Ajax player is one for the future and is not likely to budge from Milan. A combination of Taiwo and Emanuelson will not only give Milan fluidity and pace on the left side of the pitch, but also make them a potent combination going forward.

Juventus Sign Back Albin Ekdal

Juventus have officially signed back Ekdal for 1.3million euros, beating Bologna’s offer of 1.1million.Juve sold that co-ownership to them for 2.4million euros. Ekdal’s deal was finalized yesterday after a blind auction where Juve beat Bologna’s offer.

THT Verdict: Ekdal had been heavily tipped to rejoin Juve after impressive performances at Bologna in last season. In 2009/10 season Ekdal was the shining light in eventually relegated Siena – scoring against Inter in a thrilling 4-3 loss. With his arrival, it looks increasingly likely that Sissoko will leave and Aquilani will not be bought.

Chelsea Enter The Bidding War For Alexis Sanchez

“Andre Villas-Boas, the new Chelsea manager, has taken a hands-on role in the overhaul of the club, personally calling Alexis Sanchez to sell the Chile international on the merits of joining him at Stamford Bridge.”

THT Verdict: Man City have offered more money, the player wants to move to Barcelona though, and now Chelsea have re-iterated their interest to sign him. He has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time, and the club had a bid rejected in January as well. The things which can work in Chelsea’s favor are start of the Blue Revolution v.2 under Andre Villas-Boas and the fact that the player would be central to the team’s plans, and not just one of the brilliantly skilled players available for selection. Sanchez would be a prefect addition at The Bridge, capable of playing on the right wing, as a second striker, and in the hole behind the strikers.

Sissoko in Talks With Liverpool and Newcastle United

Reports suggest that Moussa Sissoko’s agent has confirmed that the player is in talks with Liverpool and Newcastle United over a possible move to England. Lyon however, are reportedly leading the chase for the Toulouse midfielder.

THT Verdict: With the recent signing of Jordan Henderson and a move for Charlie Adam that is now seeing consummation, Moussa Sissoko could only be a back-up option for the Reds. The 21 year old is much sought after in France and is said to have a commanding presence in midfield due to his height.
