THT Transfer Watch: News And Verdicts – July 21st, 2011

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will raid his former club Bolton to sign winger Matthew Taylor. Taylor has flown home from Bolton’s pre-season tour of the United States to talk to the Hammers.

THT Verdict: ‘Brand Sam’ is working wonders for West Ham. If he can convince Matt Taylor to leave Premiership club Bolton for a championship side, it will be a great move for the club. Taylor’s left-foot is one of the best in the league and in the championship, the player will have a major impact.

Chelsea & Everton Chase Marseille Star

It is reported that Premier League clubs Chelsea and Everton are in pursuit of Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez.

THT Verdict: Unlikely. Even though the Argentine midfielder has played 43 games for the national team, his age will prove to be a deterrent even if Chelsea begin to consider him. He is 30 now, and Marseille, who paid 18m to Porto for aquiring his services 2 years back, will expect a fee in the region of 10m for him. If nothing else, Scott Parker move makes better sense than this one.

Tiago Mendes Joins Atletico Madrid

Tiago’s contract was cancelled by Juventus on mutual consent and the Portuguese predictably joined Atletico.

THT Verdict: Tiago’s style of play was never well suited to Serie A but he can do well in Spain. This is a deal that will favour all concerned parties.

Liverpool Eye New Left-Back

After having failed to capture any of their previous left-back targets, Liverpool have now targeted another player to fill in that void. Marcell Jansen, the 25 year-old left back from Hamburg.

THT Verdict: A likely bid. Jansen was one of the shining stars in an otherwise poor season for Hamburg. The player is also said to be a regular in the national squad. Surely he will be a target worth chasing if the reports are to believed.
