THT Transfer Watch: News And Verdicts – August 9, 2011

Paloschi joins Chievo on loan.

THT Verdict: This is a good move from Paloschi’s perspective as this will give him more first team playing time, as compared to Milan. The Italy U21 striker is on loan to Chievo, but they have the right to buy him on a co-ownership basis.

Chelsea look to sign £25m Porto wing back Pereira as Zhirkov’s replacement.

THT Verdict: Unlikely. Zhirkov was sold to free up a slot on the first team for more pressing concerns – in the midfield and on the wings. The club has two young players ready to serve as Cole’s understudy and then eventually take over from him. A foreign left-back for 25m in this scenario would be a nonsensical move, if there’s any truth in this story.

Arsenal have opened the door for Samir Nasri’s £25m move to Manchester City.

THT Verdict: This deal depends on how serious Arsene is about Juan Mata. The Valencia Body has spoken again and Mata is available for 25 Million. If City are ready to pay that amount for Nasri, Arsene can just pick that cash and hand it over to Unai Emery. Nasri’s move is a “done deal” according to many tabloids, anything official on it is still pending and is dependent on the Mata siuation.

Liverpool have rejected Udinese’s 11 Million bid for Raul Meireles.

THT Verdict: Raul has been absent from the pre-season friendlies this summer, be it Valencia, Hull or the Asia Tour. Previously media reports suggested that the Liverpool are reluctant to meet the demand of increase in the player’s wages, which was apparently promised by the previous management at the club, subjected to good performances on the pitch.

Raul was undoubtedly one of the best players last season. However, the arrival of Henderson , Adam and Downing has somehow diminished the player’s utility and it may be possible that the management might decide to cash in on the player. Liverpool would probably sell at 13 million pounds. The transfer could also depend on Snieder moving to Manchester, as Inter seemed interested.

Real Madrid are ready to offer Fernando Gago to Manchester City in exchange for Emmanuel Adebayor.

THT Verdict: Likely. Fernando Gago was supposed to make a move to City last year before the deal collapsed and Adebayor is Mourinho’s favourite striker for reasons unknown to mankind. It could be a win-win for both the clubs.
