THT Transfer Watch: News And Verdicts – August 6, 2011

Jovanovic joins Anderlecht

THT Verdict: Finally. Jova was on a 65,000 pounds per week wage which shows that selling him has freed up quite a bit of money for the Reds. With Koncheskey and Jovanovic now out of the picture, Liverpool will look to step on the gas and clear out the rest of the deadwood so they can make one or two more purchases this summer.

Birmingham confirms interest in John Carew

THT Verdict: With the young blood coming through to the first team and Darren Bent spearheading the strike force, John Carew’s days at Aston Villa seem to be coming to an end and he might have to make this compromise if he is to continue his career in the sport.

Malbranque signs for St Etienne from Sunderland

THT Verdict: A good move for player and club. While a move back home will surely work out in favour of the player, having a player like Malbranque in the squad will surely boost the players’ confidence. The club was looking to find a replacement for Dmitri Payet and it looks like they have found their man in Steed Malbranque.

Warnock wants Bertrand on season long loan

THT Verdict: One of Chelsea’s two promising left backs, Bertrand and Aanholt, may be sent on loan while the other will serve as a back-up to Ashley Cole. However, with the news of Yuri Zhirkov returning to Russia doing the rounds, Villas-Boas may decide to keep both of them for cover. Also, Bertrand is now over 21 and qualifies as a home-grown player – Chelsea are short in this department. Ergo, if one of them has to leave on loan, it’s more likely that Partick van Aanholt is sent to a Premiership side for a season.
