Round 10 saw Dempo dislodged from top of I-League table for the first time this season as Air India continued to surprise I-League experts. Prayag Unitedai??i??s unbeaten record was also broken as they slumped to a loss against Chirag Kerala. Churchill Brothers took hold of the top position with the Kolkata giants failed to win their respective matches.
The biggest result of this round came out of Goa where the Airmen stunned the four time Champions Dempo by a margin of 2-0. Last season, Air India lost this fixture 14-0 in the biggest margin of loss in top division football in India. How things have changed in a few months! Dempo dominated possession but were unable to score a goal with Ranty Martins hitting the post once. Takayuki Omo was a tireless dynamo in midfield and was one of the main reasons behind Air Indiaai??i??s win. The team from Mumbai relied on counter attacks and was rewarded on 74th minute when Manandeep Singh made it 0-1. Three minutes before the final whistle Collin scored Air Indiaai??i??s second goal, driving the final nail in Dempoai??i??s coffin.

This is the best start to I-League Air India has had in years. Even the most ardent AI fan would have not predicted them to get 6 points from their two matches in Goa but they defied all odds. Air Indiaai??i??s performance so far might encourage the authorities to invest more on the football club to meet AFC criteria. As for Dempo, it seems like national duty has once again come back to haunt their club form as Armando Colacoai??i??s team has now lost 6 back to back matches in I-League and Goa League.
Despite Churchill Brothers hovering near the top half of the table this season, Churchill Brothers, traditionally one of the most offensive teams in Indian football, had been surprisingly goal-shy. They finally broke the shackles against Lajong FC, pumping in six goals without reply. Beto started the scoring on 29th minute before Gabonese striker Henry Antchouet grabbed a second half hattrick. Lalrindika and ND Opara also got in the score-sheet as Churchill Brothers climbed to the top of the table. The scoreline would have been worse had Lajong ai???keeper Ralte not saved a penalty kick in second half. Lajong FCai??i??s away form has been woeful this season, not unlike their performance pattern from two seasons back. Unless they improve their performances on the road Lajong might once again get relegated.
Injury ravaged Mohun Bagan squared off against Sporting Clube, desperate for a win. A number of players from Baganai??i??s expensive attacking department were injured which prompted Subrata Bhattacharya to push up Rahim Nabi as a striker. Nabi started his career as a striker and showed that he still has goal scoring instincts when he put Bagan ahead in second half. Baganai??i??s frail defence failed to hold onto the lead as a Kingshuk Debnath handball allowed Sporting to score an equalizer. Having conceded 14 goals so far, Mohun Bagan has the worst defensive record among top-5 teams. The fact that they are still near the top of the table, despite crippling injuries, speaks volumes about coaching abilities of Subrata Bhattacharya.
East Bengal took the field knowing that a win over Pailan Arrows would take them above Dempo in the table. Trevor Morganai??i??s team failed to break down a resolute Arrows defence as the match ended in a stalemate. Uga Okpara and Tolgey Ozbey didnai??i??t seem fully fit throughout the match as East Bengal lacked teeth upfront. Pailan Arrows made a poor start to their campaign but recent games have shown that Sukhwinder in finally drilling the team to his much-lauded defensive tactics. Arrows ai???keeper Naveen Kumar was particularly impressive and earned man of the match award. East Bengal were dealt a further blow as Mehtabai??i??s yellow card meant he will be suspended in the next match.
Both Salgaocar and HAL faced off in Bangalore looking for three points. Karim Bencharifaai??i??s team has been surprisingly impotent so far while HAL was firmly lodged in bottom of the table. The defending champions scraped to only their third win of this season thanks to a strike from Ryuji Sueoka. With just one point from 10 matches HAL looks very, very likely to go down this season. They need a miracle, and that too, fast.

Mumbai FC and Pune FC played out a dull 0-0 draw in the Maharashtra derby. PFC dominated possession but lacked the killer punch. Chiragai??i??s victory against Prayag pushed down Mumbai FC into relegation zone.
Prayag Unitedai??i??s unbeaten record was finally broken as Chirag Kerala grabbed three invaluable points thanks to two goals from Sunday. This was a prestige match of sorts after Chirag Computers stopped sponsoring United Club following a bitter episode during transfer window. Chirag finally brought smile to the faces of the home fans.

It will unfair to give this award to a single AI player as every player played their part in defence. Lamine Tamba was like the great rock of Gibraltar at the back and neutralized Koko Sakibu. Pawan Kumar, who has been consistently brilliant this season, made some great saves off Ranty Martins and Clifford Miranda.
Special mention for Henry Antchouet for his three goals and two assists.
Flop of the Week
Arnab Mandal (Prayag United)
While Air India defence had a good day at the office, one of Indiaai??i??s upcoming defenders had an offday in the Kerala. Mandal was shaky throughout the match and was responsible for both goals scored by Sunday. His first mistake, a weak backpass to his goalie allowed Chirag to take the lead while another mistake saw Sunday score the winning goal.

ai???Dika is swiftly proving himself to be one of the most lethal wide players in Indian football. His goal against Lajong was a wonderful piece of individual skill. He received the ball from Henry Antchouet, cut back from the wings and curled a long ranger into the top corner.

Chirag had won just one match before this fixture, an opening day victory. Their performance had improved in recent matches but three points still eluded them. Few expected them to turn it around when Prayag United, the only unbeaten team in I-League. Chirag opened the scoring through Sunday after a mistake from Arnab Mandal only to see Yakubu make it 1-1 on 49th minute. Prayag was dominating possession when Sunday made it 2-1 on 69th minute. The Chirag defence saw out 21 minutes to earn a valuable win.
