CHIRAG UNITED
v
MUMBAI FC

Kolkata, 18/01/2010 – 1:45 PM IST

1′ : Match kicks off. Two teams with similar table positions are squaring off at the Salt Lake Stadium. Chirag is arguably the in-form team having defeated Mohun Bagan and drawin with East Bengal in last 2 matches. Chirag is starting without their foreign strikers – Junior and Joshimar.

6′: Branco !!! The former TFA graduate comes close but his header goes wide. Gouranaga with a beautiful cross from the wings.

10′ : Goal-less after 10 minutes. Chirag enjoying better possession.

11′: Branco !!! Branco comes close to scoring again ! His well taken header brilliantly kept out by MFC goalkeeper.

18′: GOOOAAALLL!!! : Mumbai FC take the lead against the run of play !! Ebi Sukore is the scorer.

20′ : Chirag United 0-1 Mumbai FC. MFC has performed well against both the Kolkata giants this season. Can they pull off an upset today?

25′ : Jerry !!! The former Mohun Bagan player’s long ranger misses the target by a whisker. Ishan was beaten there ! Some neat buildup between Branco and Jerry for that attempt.

30′ : MFC defence is fighting for their lives to keep the scoreline intact.

38′ : Henry !!! He could have doubled his tally there ! One on one with Chirag ‘keeper but he hits it wide.

40′ : Mumbai FC still ahead by a solitary goal. Chirag are attacking with all their force while MFC is trying to nick one more from counter attacks.

42′ : Rafique !!! He hits the post after lovely build-up play between Branco and Gouranga.

HT : Chirag United 0-1 Mumbai FC :: The score-line at half-time cant be more misleading. Chirag has completely dominated possession and has managed 6 shots on target. Yet they are trailing by a goal. The second half promises to be a cracking encounter.

48′: Second half kicks off. One change for Chirag. Subhash Chakraborty introduced in place of Jerry.

53′: What a tremendous effort. Denson went for a by-cycle volley which was saved off the goal-line by MFC defender Anas.

57′: Great save by Abhijit. The veteran custodian denies Henry a brace with a spectacular save.

58′: Another substitution for Chirag. Asif IN; Branco OFF.

60′: Md Rafiq !!! Chance for the Durand Cup hero as he was one-on-one with MFC ‘keeper Ishan. But Ishan did well to come out off his line and snatch the ball from Rafiq.

63′: Henry Ezeh fires a shot well over Chirag cross-piece. Poor effort. Chirag trailing by a goal here.

68′: Chirag attacking in numbers here. Another decent opportunity lost as Rafiq fires over and wide. Sanjay Sen is looking desperate for a goal. The absence of foreign striker duo, Joshimar and Junior, hit them badly here against a solid MFC defense.

73′: Chirag continue to disappoint with poor finishing despite having the major share of ball possession. MFC still leading by a goal here at YBK. Just over a quarter of an hour left for the final whistle.

77′: The desperation is evident as Chirag players now have resorted to trying out luck by hitting long rangers. MFC ‘keeper Ishan Debnath is hardly bothered. Last change for Chirag – Lalkamal OUT; Anupam Sarkar IN.

81′: Mumbai FC seem to be content with the one goal lead. They are on the defensive mindset at this moment. Chirag has less than 10 minutes to stage a come-back, if they can.

86′: Penalty for Chirag! MFC defender Kattimani used his hand to control a ball inside his own box. Referee pointed to the spot and Kattimani goes into his book.

87′: Saved by Ishan. Denson Devadas steps in to take the penalty but Ishan Debnath pulls off another magical save. He has been immense for MFC and deserves the man of the match award today. Chirag’s frustrating day continues.

FT: Chirag United 0-1 Mumbai FC :: Mumbai FC continues their revival with another fighting display here at YBK. Young keeper Ishan Debnath must have been credited for his heroic display and he has been awarded the official man of the award. Chirag will rue their poor finishing.

ONGC
v
MOHUN BAGAN

Kohlapur, 18/01/2010 – 3:30 PM IST

Team News:

ONGC: Rajat, Kamal, Gour, Bimal, Robin, Jotin, Sandip, Bhola, Tapan, Opara, Babatunde.

Mohun Bagan: Sangram, Dhanrajan, Kingshuk, Diamondstar, Mohonraj, Satish, Manish, Souvik, Isfaq, Barreto, Chidi.

1′: After registering a moral boosting win at Goa, a resurgent Mohun Bagan outfit takes on a confident ONGC side, who tasted their first I-League win in the last match against Viva Kerala. Muritala Ali is once again benched by Subhash Bhowmick, hence Barreto-Chidi combo starts at the top of the pack. All set for kick off and here goes referee’s whistle.

3′: Great stop by Rajat. The veteran goalkeeper did admirably well to save a goal bound ball fired by Barreto from the right wing.

7′: Mohun Bagan misses another opportunity to go one up here at Kohlapur. Chidi shot from the edge of the box misses the target by a whisker.

10′: Nasty collision there, between Robin Gurung and Ishfaq. Robin has to be stretchered out. Ishfaq seems alright. Vikash Jain comes in.

15′: ONGC makes their first attacking surge. Nice one-two between Babatunde and Tapan Maity, however Dhanarajan was alert and clears the ball.

19′: Excellent effort by Vikash Jain. His volley goes inches wide of the far post.

21′: Chidi should have done better. Ishfaq presented him with a great ball, but the high profile striker misses the target.

25′: Sangram back in to the starting 11 after quite a few matches. Makes a good save off a Jatin Singh free kick.

31′: GOOOAAALLLL !!! Bagan takes the lead. Ishfaq gets on the score-sheet again. Chidi provided the assist.

35′: GOOAAALLLLL !!! And another one. Bagan doubles their lead. Edeh Chidi is the scorer. He capitalizes on a lose clearence by Gour Naskar and slotted the ball home.

40′: Chidi is playing despite learning about the death of his mother a day back… one assist, one goal. That’s called committment.

43′: GOOOAAALLLL !!! ONGC pulls one back. Opara was fouled inside the Bagan box and the referee did not hesitate the award a penalty. Opara makes no mistakes. It’s 1-2 at Kohlapur at the stroke of half time.

HT: Time for the lemon break. Mohun Bagan is leading by 2-1 at half time.

49′: Misses by a whisker !!! ND Opara strikes from a corner kick, but the ball goes just inches wide of the near post.

54′: Another chance for ONGC. Gour Naskar’s header from a Jatin Singh free kick goes out over the cross-piece. ONGC is threatening to score the equalizer here.

57′: Player cahnge for Bagan. Souvik OUT; Jayanta IN.

59′: Another change by Subhash Bhowmick. Sathish comes off and Gouranga Dutta introduced.

63′: Great effort by ONGC. ND Opara combines well with Babatunde, but the latter fails to control the ball otherwise it could well have been the equalizer for ONGC.

69′: Last change by Bagan. Barreto OFF; Muritala ON.

74′: Good effort by Jatin Singh Bist. His long range screamer went just over the top right corner.

78′: Jayanta mishits a ball delivered by Ishfaq from left wing.

80′: Only 10 minutes remaining here. ONGC continues to attack in numbers. Can they score another to snatch a point off the Mariners? Well, the way Bagan defense is getting shaken-up with each ONGC attack, the possibility can’t be ruled out.

88′: GOOAAALLLLL !!! Bagan scores their third and ensures all three points from this Kohlapur trip. Chidi gets his second successive brace.

90′: Four minutes of added time.

FT: ONGC FC 1-3 Mohun Bagan :: Mohun Bagan’s revival battle gets the boost with a dominating 3-1 win. Subhash Bhowmick’s players achieved the target set to them by the coach – that’s 6 points from Goa & Kohlapur trip. A job well done by the players and offcourse the men at helm – Subhash.

5′: Churchill threatening early in to the match. No goals yet.

10′: Vincent misses an easy opportunity. Chance wasted.

20′: No goals yet. Air India defense is playing well at this moment, nullying all the Churchill attacking threats upfront.

30: A goal less fisrt half-an-hour. Churchill is dominating the match entirely, but unable to generate the final ball.

40′: Credit should be given to Yusuf Ansari’s boys. They are not looking for more than a point here and defending resolutely. Churchill bench looks impatient.

45′: Half Time at Margaon. Churchill dominated the match but Air India defense is having a solid outing so far.

55′: It remains goal-less. Vincent wastes another great opportunity after being laid in by Zakeer.

65′: The Churchill strikers are having an off day. This time Arup Debnath comes up with a splendid save to deny Zakeer.

75′: GOOAAALLLL !!! Churchill scores another and doubles their lead. Charan Rai scores his first goal in this edition of I-League.

85′: Churchill leading by 2-0 and dominating the ball possession as well. It looks all over for Air India who played so well in the first 70 minutes.

FT: Churchill Brothers 2-0 Air India :: With another dominating victory over relegation battlers Air India, Churchill leap-frogged Salgaocar to the 2nd spot in I-League table. Air India, only team yet to register a single win, remains at the rock bottom.

 VIVA KERALA

East Bengal: Sandip, Naoba, Gurwinder, Okpara, Saumik, Sanju, Harmanjot, Penn, Sushant, Tolgey, Robin.

1′: By their usual high standards, this should be a walk in the park for Morgan’s Red-&-Gold brigade. Viva has staged one giant-killing performance earlier, when they dumped Mohun Bagan 2-0, but a repeat of that performance seems highly unlikely today. Here’s the kick off, the match is ON.

5′: Viva keeper Shahinlal gets booked for a foul on Robin Singh just outside the box. East Bengal gets a free kick. Wasted by Sanju.

8′: Penn’s shot is blocked by Viva defender Charles.

7′: East Bengal on the attack and gets a corner this time.

10′: The game is restricted in the Viva Kerala half. Tolgay Ozbey is fould by a Viva defender and East Bengal gets another free-kick. This time Penn fires it straight at the defensive wall.

14′: Viva attacks from the right. Soumik Dey clears the ball and East Bengal goes forward on the counter move.

17′: Viva gets a corner. Jimshad’s shot went out.

20′: Great save by Sandip. Felix tried to test veteran East Bengal goalkeeper with a perfectly placed long ranger, but Sandip Nandy pulls off a great diving stop. It’s still goalless here at Kannur.

24′: What a run by Naoba down the right flank. He dribbles and cuts inside then outside three Viva players and delivers a good cross in the middle of the Viva box. But surprisingly no East Bengal player was waiting there to poach in that brilliant delivery. A good effort gets wasted.

27′: Beautiful one touch football on display here. Sushanth Mathew and Robin Singh plays a nice sequence of little one-two and gets inside the Viva box. But the final ball was a weak shot and Shahinlal gathers easily.

29′: Sabeeth with the ball inside the box. Could have been dangerous for East Bengal, but Okpara to his teams rescue with a timely block.

33′: Good save by Sandip. Felix fired a free kick from around 20 yards out but can’t beat the East Bengal goalkeeper. The score-line remans goalless.

38′: Robin Singh !!! East Bengal’s top Indian scorer this season fails to take advantage of a defensive lapse. From a poor clearence Sanju provided a great ball for Robin, but the striker heads it agonizingly over the cross-piece.

40′: Felix is late to react as Jimshad feeds him with a decent ball. Gurwinder clears.

41′: GOOOAAALLLLL !!! East Bengal takes the lead. “Toly-Roly” combines well to draw the first blood for Red-&-Golds at Kannur. Tolgay heads the ball over the goal-line after Robin delivered a measured cross for his Australian strike partner.

43′: Sushanth Mathew misses an easy chance. Penn Orji laid the ball to an unmarked Shushanth, who fires wide from a close range.

HT:  It’s half time at Kannur and East Bengal is leading by one goal. East Bengal dominated the match and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, but Viva also created some decent chances. It promises to be an exciting second half with the home team going all out for the equalizer. Join us back in 15 minutes time for the second half updates.

51′: Great ball for Rabin Singh by Penn Orji. But the young strikers fails to make any contact.

52′: What a miss !!! Sabeeth goes for a through ball and Sandip Nandy comes out off his line; Sabeeth passes the ball to Felix and he fails to put it inside an open goal.

55′: Great run by Tolgay who tried to lay the ball for Penn but the Nigerian is unable to reach and Viva clears.

59′: Tolgaayyyy !!! Misses by a whisker. Change for Viva – Anil Kumar OUT; Murugappan IN.

61′: Charles plays a great through ball and Okpara fails to intercept; but Sabeeth flick goes off target.

64′: Saved by Shahinlal. Penn took a sudden shot from 18 yards out from a pass supplied by Sanju Pradhan. Shahinlal makes a diving stop.

67′: Robin gets booked for an unneccessary foul on Sabeeth. When will these guys get matured? Their kiddish acts have already proved costly for the team as Tolgay’s absence was felt badly in the Chirag match.

72′: Great chance!!! But Shahinlal once again comes to his team’s rescue with an acrobatic effort to save Sanju Pradhan’s shot. East Bengal is leading by a goal here with just over 15 minutes remaining.

We Faced A Technical Issue And Hence Could Not Bring You The Live Actions For Last Few Minutes. Apologies For The Inconvenience Caused.

FT: Viva Kerala 0-1 East Bengal :: Red-&-Gold brigade clinches all three points to consolidate their position at the summit of I-League standings with 26 points as they open up a 7 points gap with the second placed Churchill Brothers. Tolgay Ozbey has been declared as the official man of the match.

AIFF
v
JCT FC

Gurgaon, 19/01/2011 2:30 PM IST

1′: Here we go. All set for the first North vs North clash in I-League. Although Tau Devi Laal Stadium, Gurgaon is officially the home ground for AIFF XI, JCT FC enjoys massive fan support here. JCT and AIFF are slotted in 8th and 9th slot respectively and a win here would be vital for both the teams as three points would propel them to the top half of the league standings.

5′: AIFF XI is trying to thump the midfield authority with Shilton D’Silva looking in great control. JCT’s Keke Ibrahim tried testing Jagrup Singh, AIFF goalie, with a long ranger. His shot lacks power, easily collected by Jagrup.

10′: No goals yet in the match. Omoloja cleared a dangerous ball with a timely tackle on Malswamfela, the scorer for AIFF XI in their last match against Mumbai FC.

15′: Both the teams are playing a waiting game at the moment. No real attacking threats upfront. The score-board reads AIFF XI 0-0 JCT FC, after quarter of an hour’s proceedings.

20′: Great save by Jagrup. Nuruddin tried to hit a back volley from a corner. The ball was on target, but Jagrup was alert and clears the ball for another corner.

30′: Half-an-hour passed by without any goals. Jeje Lalpekhlua blasted a decent opportunity well over the woodwork.

35′: 10 minutes to go for the half time whistle. It still remains goal-less at Gurgaon.

HT: A goal-less first half played between the two neighbors. AIFF enjoys a slightly higher percantage of ball possession, but JCT created more chances upfront compared to the young lads.

90′: Three minutes of injury time to be played here. In all probability this looks like a goal-less draw.

FT: AIFF XI 0-0 JCT FC :: Another draw for AIFF XI, who remains at the 9th position. JCT also collected one point from this tie and holds on to their 8th place, one above AIFF, in the I-League standings. JCT’s Amandeep Singh gets the man of the match award.

SALGAOCAR : Karanjit, Sabrosa, Jashpal, Meitee, Francis, Rocus, Rino, Tomba, Sueoka, Barbosa,

Pre-match: All set for the big Goan Derby. Team line-up is up and surprisingly, no place for Yakubu in Salgaocar first XI; not even on the bench. Official communication is that of him being injured. Ogba Kalu Nanna makes his come-back in Dempo midfield. Cracker of a contest on the cards here. Massive crowd gathering in Fatorda for this match. I am Jonathan Desousa, your commentator for the day, and will bring you all the actions live from Margaon’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

1′: And here we go. The match kicks off. Salgaocar with the first attack. Tomba’s shot goes straight to Kattimani in Denmpo’s goal.

2′: What a save!!! Kattimani pulls of a blinder. Defense splitting pass by Tomba, finds Barbosa. With only to beat the ‘keeper, Barbosa fires a right footer. But Kattimani was equal to the task and pulls off a save by his out-stretched legs.

10′: Nice pass by Cliffton to Nicolau, but the winger disappoints with a poor effort.

12′: Rino Antao is fed by Barbosa, but his shot goes just wide of the near post. Dempo leading by a goal here.

14′: A good attacking build up by Salgaocar gets awarded with a corner. Cleared by John Dias.

16′: Sloppy play there by Kalu who loses possession in the midfield. Tomba sends in a great forward ball to Barbosa; but the striker hits it wide of Kattimani’s goal. Salgaocar is dominating the attack at the moment. Dempo needs to buckle up.

19′: Dempo defense looking shaky. Looping header by Marcus, but Kattimani collects easily.

32′: GOOOAAALLLL !!! Ryuiji Sueoka equalizes for Salgaocar. A great header from a close range by the Japanese midfielder, who is enjoying an impressive outing till now.

35′: Game has gone quite. Both the teams are firing from long range.

39′: Great shot by Marcus on the turn. Goes wide by a whisker. Corner for Salgaocar.

42′: What a miss by Nicolau! On the break Peter sets up Cliffton who runs at the Salgaocar defense and feeds the ball to an unmarked Nicolau, who just had the goalie to beat, but fires wide.

45′: Assistant referee signals only 1 minute of added time.

HT: It’s lemon break at Fatorda, Margaon. The match hangs in balance with both the teams scoring one goal each. Salgaocar may just consider themselves lucky as they dominated the attacking but could not convert few easy goal scoring opportunities. Join us back for the second half updates in about 15 minutes time.

46′: Both the teams are coming out of the tunnel. The body language suggests that Dempo players might have received a hair dryer treatment from Armando Colaco. Here we go, the second half gets underway.

47′: First chance of the half goes to Salgaocar again. Sueoka lays the ball for Barbosa, but the latter’s weak shot saved easily by Kattimani. John Dias is looking completely out of sorts against the pacy Salgaocar attack.

51′: Nice one-two by Peter and Cliffton before Peter decided to shoot. Goes straight to Karanjit.

55′: GOOOAAALLL !!! Salgaocar takes the lead. Goes 2-0 up and the crowd erupts in joy. Francis scores for Karim Bencharifa’s side taking advantage of a faulty clearance by Nicolau.

60′: Salgaocar deserves to win this match. Dempo is looking pretty ordinary today. Sloppy performance by Armando’s men. A change for Dempo – Nicolau goes OFF, Joe ON.

62′: Change for Salgaocar. Marcus OFF, Milgres ON. Dempo would need some devine intervention to stage a fight-back here. Beto and Ranty both looked off-color today.

67′: Another substitute by Armando. Micky Fernandes ON; Cliffton Gonsalves OFF. Armando may just be thinking to go all out here.

70′: The Dempo coach might have access to our live commentary as Armando can be seen on the touchline urging his players to step up the gas padel and go all out. Just over 20 minutes remaing here and Armando decided to throw his last dice – Kalu OFF; Rouhollah Samienia ON.

72′: A corner for Dempo. The last change looks effective, as Samienia combines well with Beto to earn this flag kick.

75′: Penalty for Salgaocar. Marcus brings down Francis who was leading a quick counter attack.

76′: GOOOAAALLLL !!! Sueoka converts from the spot. Salgaocar goes 3-1 up here and it might prove to be all over for Dempo.

80′: Only 10 minutes to go. Can Dempo stage a late fight-back in this prestige battle? This is football, my friends, and everything is possible in this beautiful game till the final whistle.

85′: Change for Salgaocar. Barbosa OFF, Gilbert Olivera ON.

90′: Assistant referee adds four minutes of injury time. It looks all over for defending I-League champions. Salgaocar in complete cruise control.

92′: Time wasting tactics by Karim. Sueoka OFF, Cajetan makes his debut in Salgaocar colors.

FT: Salgaocar 3-1 Dempo :: Dempo succumbs to their 2nd loss of the season and drops one place to the 5th spot, behind Mumbai FC. Salgaocar registered their 7th win and maintains the 5 point gap with Table Toppers East Bengal. Midfielder Francis Fernandes has been declared as the official man of the match.
