Manchester United are reportedly keeping an eye on the progress of Bologna’s midfield sensation Mattias Svanberg.
According to Calciomercato.it, Manchester United scouts were present during Bologna’s recent game against Fiorentina. They were keeping an eye on multiple talents on the pitch, including Mattias Svanberg. The report suggests the Premier League giants are keen on the young midfielder and may consider making a move in the summer.
A product of the Malmo youth academy, Svanberg has been a part of Bologna since the summer of 2018. During his ongoing three-and-a-half-year spell at the club, the midfielder has racked up over 100 competitive appearances, impressing the onlookers with his work rate and aggression in the middle of the park.
Svanberg is even regarded as one of the most gifted up and coming talents in Swedish football, with the 23-year-old already bagging 15 caps for his country so far.
His rapid rise to prominence has seen him being linked with several Premier League clubs in the past. Some of them were even keen on bagging his services in the January transfer window, with Manchester City and Tottenham namely running an enquiry.
While Svanberg ended up remaining at Bologna in January, his spell in Serie A could come to an end in the summer, with Manchester United emerging as a potential destination.
Amid reports of Paul Pogba’s potential exit from Old Trafford, the Red Devils are desperate to shore up their options in the middle of the park. Mattias Svanberg, to that end, could be an interesting option as the 23-year-old has shown immense potential during his time in Serie A.
With over 100 competitive appearances for Bologna, the former Malmo prodigy offers significant experience at the highest level of football and could prove to be a useful alternative for someone like Fred. Not to mention, the Swede could be available for a cut-price deal, as his current contract at Bologna expires at the end of next season.
It could ultimately make him a cost-effective alternative to other midfield targets such as Ruben Neves, who is set to cost a fortune due to his vast experience in the Premier League. While there is always a question mark on whether or not Svanberg can succeed in England, he certainly has the pedigree to do so, and with the right guidance, the midfielder could establish himself as a major asset for the club.
